Whether you're commuting or riding after dark, especially on trails that have few ambient light sources, your front light should be a high-output system so that you can see well ahead.

High-output lighting systems:

Rechargeable lights that provide maximum illumination. Despite being more expensive, they are much brighter than safety lights, and they let you see where you're going in almost any condition.

Front, side and rear safety lights:

This helps motorists see you when the light is dim. You will also have a better view during the daytime with the brightest ones. They are not bright enough to help you see where you're going, however, for most night rides. The main differences between safety light models include mounting options, the number of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), and whether they use rechargeable or disposable batteries.
