The Best Way to Store an E-bike

Assuming you use your electric bicycle regularly, you’ll want to keep it handy and ready for use, but if you aren't going to use it for a while - perhaps due to a holiday or layover in the winter - there are a few more steps you should take to make sure it's ready for use again later.

CHARGE UP YOUR BATTERY

Your e-bike's battery will also need to be recharged. You can do that with the bike still attached, if you have a handy power outlet. If not, many e-bicycles allow you to remove the battery and charge it indoors easily. It's a good option to consider if it's available.

While your battery management software will prevent overcharging, it's still a good idea to disconnect it once the charge indicator shows that it is fully charged rather than leaving it connected to the charger.

Whether you recharge your battery on or off your bike, you should keep it away from extreme temperatures. Battery performance and capacity can be affected by high temperatures - over 40C.

Don't leave your e-bike somewhere where it can overheat if you're transporting it by car.

KEEP IT SAFE

It's a good idea to store your e-bike somewhere safe, as with any other bike. The higher value of e-bikes makes them even more appealing to thieves. Here are some tips on keeping your bike safe. It is essential to have good security on your bike storage and to lock your e-bike to a solid ground anchor with a sturdy chain.

HAVING A LONGER LAYOVER?

Again, if you're storing your bike longer term, it's recommended that you remove your battery and keep it somewhere that's dry and not subject to extreme temperatures. You should also store it without fully charging it.
