Hovsco HovCity vs Aventon Pace 500 - City Commuter Ebike Comparison

With the release of the HovCity Step-Thru, Hovsco is stepping into the new world of city commuter bikes. To put this statement in perspective, we decided to write up a piece comparing our new addition to the field, the HovCity Step-Through. For good measure we've also included a comparison of the Hovsco HovCity vs Aventon Pace 500.

Just because you commute on your bike doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. The HovCity Step-Thru ebike and Aventon Pace 500 ebike all split the difference between a city commuter ebike and a relaxed city cruiser.

Before we start, it’s worth noting that these two bikes are very similar. While there are certainly a handful of differences that distinguish them, they’re all fairly small and have a lot to do with personal preference.

From this chart, we can clearly see that HovCity and Pace 500 has lots of similar components. 48V/500W brushless rear-hub motor, five levels of pedal assist up to 28 mph, 53 pound for bike weight,  backlit color display with mobile app synchronization and 27.5 x 2.2-inch ebike-rated tires. But two components are different, one is that HovCity with seven-speed drivetrain, while Pace 500 has eight-speed drivetrain. Another one is that HovCity with mechanical disc brakes, but Pace 500 has hydraulic disc brakes equipped. Actually considering configuration, seven or eight speed drivetrain almost functions the same. For riders who have less budget, HovCity Step-Thru might suit you more.

The electric element is what makes electric bikes what they are. You're probably reading this article because you're curious to know how the electrical components of the Hovsco compare to those of the Pace 500.

Pace 500

36V 15Ah (540Wh)

48V 12.8Ah (614Wh)

Pace 500 has more power and can travel further and faster compared to HovCity Step-Thru. But if you think about the range and the price, maybe you will choose more suitable one for yourself.

The simplest and most accurate way to put it is that our motors are equal. Powerful, brushless, and located in the same place on the ebike.

Pedal Assist

5 Levels

5 Levels

The two models have the same top speeds and pedal assist levels, which gives riders a versatile riding experience, allowing them to fine-tune their pedal assist level according to their preferences.

48V 3A

Pace 500 is equipped with a charger 48V 3A while HovCity Step-Thru only 42V 3A.

Lights Head& Rear Light Head& Rear Light

You will never have to worry about not being seen or having your lights fail mid-ride with integrated front and rear lights. HovCity Step-Thru's lights are seamlessly integrated, so there are no exposed wires.

The HovCity Step-Through Ebike

Pace 500 gets something like 40miles per charge on the max pedal assist and about 60 miles on the lowest pedal assist level. While Pace 500 get 25 miles per charge on the max level and 51 miles on lowest level. This is quite impressive. In terms of power, the lighter weight on the Pace 500 contributes to it feeling more powerful than the other two bikes, especially up hills on throttle only.

Now that we’ve dove into the electric parts of both the HovCity Step-Thru and Pace 500, it’s time to look more into the bike part. After all, these products are electric bikes!

Pace 500

Mechanical Disc Brakes

Hydraulic Disc Brakes

Disc brakes on both bikes provide maximum braking power without sacrificing comfort. It is important to consider hydraulic disc brakes when looking for an ebike with a high top speed and the ability to accelerate quickly, such as these two.

The difference between 7 and 8 speeds is unlikely to make a difference here, especially with the 500W nominal hub motors in all three bikes helping you maintain your cadence.

Suspension Fork

Suspension Fork with 75mm travel, without lockout

 Suspension Fork

Both ebikes are equipped with front suspension forks with lockout functions. With a lockout function, the rider can fine-tune their fork to match the terrain they are riding in, either stiffening it or making it more fluid, depending on the terrain.

Lastly, let's move on to the fun part: the physical aspects.
