Hovsco HovCity vs Aventon Pace 500 - City Commuter Ebike Comparison

With the release of the HovCity Step-Thru, Hovsco is stepping into the new world of city commuter bikes. To put this statement in perspective, we decided to write up a piece comparing our new addition to the field, the HovCity Step-Through. For good measure we've also included a comparison of the Hovsco HovCity vs Aventon Pace 500.

Just because you commute on your bike doesn’t mean it can’t be fun. The HovCity Step-Thru ebike and Aventon Pace 500 ebike all split the difference between a city commuter ebike and a relaxed city cruiser.

AN OVERVIEW OF STATS

Before we start, it’s worth noting that these two bikes are very similar. While there are certainly a handful of differences that distinguish them, they’re all fairly small and have a lot to do with personal preference.

From this chart, we can clearly see that HovCity and Pace 500 has lots of similar components. 48V/500W brushless rear-hub motor, five levels of pedal assist up to 28 mph, 53 pound for bike weight,  backlit color display with mobile app synchronization and 27.5 x 2.2-inch ebike-rated tires. But two components are different, one is that HovCity with seven-speed drivetrain, while Pace 500 has eight-speed drivetrain. Another one is that HovCity with mechanical disc brakes, but Pace 500 has hydraulic disc brakes equipped. Actually considering configuration, seven or eight speed drivetrain almost functions the same. For riders who have less budget, HovCity Step-Thru might suit you more.

Disc brakes on both bikes provide maximum braking power without sacrificing comfort. It is important to consider hydraulic disc brakes when looking for an ebike with a high top speed and the ability to accelerate quickly, such as these two.

The difference between 7 and 8 speeds is unlikely to make a difference here, especially with the 500W nominal hub motors in all three bikes helping you maintain your cadence.

Both ebikes are equipped with front suspension forks with lockout functions. With a lockout function, the rider can fine-tune their fork to match the terrain they are riding in, either stiffening it or making it more fluid, depending on the terrain.
